不久前我們InCar報導了10月10日SSC（Shelby SuperCars）Tuatara在美國內華達州南部和Pahrump之間的封閉160號州際公路上可能創造了新的量產車最速世界紀錄。而在昨天，SSC已正式宣布他們的Tuatara以雙向平均316.11 mph（508.7 km/h）的速度成為新的速度之王；而且其中一趟的速度更高逹驚人的331 mph（532.7 km/h）。

不同於Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+達到的單向304.77 mph（490.47 km/h）速度， SSC的Tuatara進行了正確的雙向行駛，並以平均316.11 mph（508.7 km/h）的速度獲得了正式的認證。它打破了2017年由英國賽車手Oliver Webb駕駛Koenigsegg Agera RS在同一條道路上所創下的平均277.9 mph（447.2 km/h），最高速284.55 mph（457km/h/）的前紀錄，成為這個星球上最快的量產車。

駕駛Tuatara的職業賽車手Oliver Webb表示：「第一趟時跑出了301.07 mph（484.53 km/h）的速度，第二趟跑出了令人難以置信的331 mph（532.7 km/h）。如果在更好的環境條件下，我知道我們可以跑得更快，當我接近331 mph時，Tuatara在過去五秒鐘內爬升了近20 mph（32.18 km/h）。Tuata還沒有耗盡，側風阻礙了我們實現汽車的極限。」

Tuatara搭載5.9升V8平面曲軸雙渦輪增壓引擎，在使用91燃油時可輸出1,350hp最大馬力，若使用E85燃料則可產生1,750hp的最大馬力。此外，它的車重僅有1247.37公斤，風阻係數僅為0.279 Cd，如果計劃打破世界紀錄，這將非常有用。

SSC首席執行官Jerod Shelby表示：「距離我們首輛跑車Ultimate Aero維持記錄已經十年了，Tuatara的成績領先全球同業。它的表現反映了我們追求這一項成就的奉獻精神和專注。我們幾乎達到了理論數字，這在現實世界的公共道路上是相當驚人的。」
