BACKGROUND
While this idle issue may manifest itself as an initial dip, please only add your name if you have experienced a combination of the check engine light (CEL) and slip light (SL) in addition to the RPM hunting at idle (often severe shaking and stalling). The code your engine control unit (ECU) should have stored is P0019 (also optional P0017, P0018 or related cam codes).
Toyota and Subaru have developed various solutions for this issue which have not been consistent and may require multiple repairs or even vehicle replacement due to limited success. Repairs could include a combination of the following: replacing cam sprocket assemblies, replacing oil control valves, reflashing and/or replacing the ECU. Update,
dealership has kept the vehicle over the weekend. They are waiting on a
new part to come in from Japan and will continue to test once the new
part is in. So far, it does not appear to have effect anything
mechanically in the motor. Ill know more when i am able to talk with the
Master mechanic.
update! Just spoke with the tech, and he informed me they will be replacing the ECU as well to the new "upgraded one".
I got her back!!!! So..... I already had the new ecu but Toyota told them
to change it anyways just in case the old one had bad memory of the
wrong timing with the cams.
I def can tell it idles way smoother than before. I cant tell if it runs
better yet because i have yet to open it up due to it still being broken
in.
Oh, and the idle dip is not normal, so take it in whether u get the CEL on
or not. He told me Toyota knows something is going on but need more
people to report it so they can narrow down the true issue.

英國的解決方式=刷晶片

During this activity we have become aware of an issue which affects 36
vehicles, less than 4% of total vehicles sold. These vehicles have
experienced rough running caused by the engine ECU restricting the
operation of the VVTi Controller. The root cause of the issue is the
relationship of the tolerances in VVTi Controller design and the ECU
software. We can assure you that this does not damage the engine because
as soon as the ECU detects that a sensor signal is out of specification
it will protect the engine by inducing a fail-safe condition and, at
the same time, illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp to inform the
driver.
To affect a permanent resolution to this issue TMC have been developing an
upgrade to the ECU software but this has taken time to bring to market
due to the need for it to be homologated. Whilst this process has been
on-going VVTi Controllers manufactured to a tighter specification have
been available to fit to those vehicles experiencing the rough running
condition.
We are pleased to confirm that the software homologation has now been
completed and that it will be available on Thursday 25th October 2012.
As this is now so close and a failure typically occurs within the first
2,000 miles we have taken the decision to hold deliveries of new cars
until the software upgrade has taken place. |
